ABSTRACT

As cruise ships call at many ports and passengers come from all over the world, it is very easy to carry viruses on cruise ships. Under the control of the epidemic situation on board, the solid waste generated by them should be scientifically treated to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 pneumonia. Therefore, Reasonable selection of waste disposal ports and formulation of unloading plans are directly related to the resumption of cruise operations. This study considers the cost and risk of waste disposal, uses robust optimization to deal with waste volume, increases the scenarios of port service interruption due to epidemics and other reasons, and proposes a variety of emergency strategies. Finally, the relevant strategies are selected according to the decision-maker's preference for cost and risk;By solving the relevant examples, the optimal choice of the cruise ship waste disposal port under the epidemic situation is given, which verifies the validity and feasibility of the model. The research helps to improve the management of cruise waste during the post-epidemic period, and has practical value and guiding significance for the normal operation and development of the global cruise market. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

Cognitive impairment is a prominent symptom of the post-COVID syndrome (PCS). However, the correspondence between subjective cognitive complaints (SCC) and objective results is inconsistent. Here, we investigated this discrepancy. This longitudinal study included N = 42 individuals who reported SCC as PCS after mild infection at inclusion. Data collection comprised questionnaires and neuropsychological assessment at baseline and follow-up (FU). At FU - on average 15 months after acute COVID-19 - 88 % of patients reported persisting SCC. There was an approx. 40 % discrepancy between subjective report and test results at both visits. Patients with SCC and objective impairment indicated elevated fatigue and reduced quality of life compared to patients without SCC at FU. A growing number of patients is anticipated to request neuropsychological assessments even after mild infections.

ABSTRACT

Machine learning models can use information from gene expressions in patients to efficiently predict the severity of symptoms for several diseases. Medical experts, however, still need to understand the reasoning behind the predictions before trusting them. In their day-to-day practice, physicians prefer using gene expression profiles, consisting of a discretized subset of all data from gene expressions: in these profiles, genes are typically reported as either over-expressed or under-expressed, using discretization thresholds computed on data from a healthy control group. A discretized profile allows medical experts to quickly categorize patients at a glance. Building on previous works related to the automatic discretization of patient profiles, we present a novel approach that frames the problem as a multi-objective optimization task: on the one hand, after discretization, the medical expert would prefer to have as few different profiles as possible, to be able to classify patients in an intuitive way;on the other hand, the loss of information has to be minimized. Loss of information can be estimated using the performance of a classifier trained on the discretized gene expression levels. We apply one common state-of-the-art evolutionary multi-objective algorithm, NSGA-II, to the discretization of a dataset of COVID-19 patients that developed either mild or severe symptoms. The results show not only that the solutions found by the approach dominate traditional discretization based on statistical analysis and are more generally valid than those obtained through single-objective optimization, but that the candidate Pareto-optimal solutions preserve the sense-making that practitioners find necessary to trust the results. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This purpose of this study is to help students developing problem-solving skills by using Problem-based Learning (PBL) as a teaching model, combining with the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as a training tool to evaluate students' clinical competencies. Sixty-five college junior students from a therapeutic nutrition course were participated. The topics of PBL included diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. For each disease, pre- and post-test quiz and after class exam were assessed to evaluate the students' learning effectiveness. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, OSCE was performed online. The focus group interview and learning effectiveness questionnaire were conducted by the end of this course for all participants. Moreover, 37 students who attended the dietitian internship filled in the learning effectiveness questionnaire again after the internship. The results indicated that after the PBL, the post quiz score for each disease was increased, and through the online OSCE training, students' abilities to master nutrition education and counseling had been upgraded. Students indicated that both PBL and OSCE training could contributed to the learning effectiveness. The better academic performance students were, the more willing they are to work in nutrition-related fields in the future. For those who finished the dietitian internship agreed that they could understand the work content better in general regional and regional hospitals than in teaching ones. In conclusion, PBL teaching model combined with OSCE training could effectively improve students' learning motivation, learning effectiveness and practical application in a therapeutic nutrition course.Copyright © 2022 Nutrition Society in Taipei. ABSTRACT

Crop image segmentation plays a key step in the field of agriculture. The crop images present near the environs have complex backgrounds and their grayscale histogram is mostly multimodal. Hence, multilevel segmentation of grayscale crop images may be helpful for better analysis. This paper proposed multilevel thresholding of grayscale crop images incorporated with minimum cross entropy as an objective function. The time complexity of this technique increases with the threshold levels. Hence, the coronavirus herd immunity optimizer (CHIO) has been amalgamated with the objective function. This technique improves the image's accuracy. The CHIO is a humanbased algorithm that separates the foreground and background efficiently with multiple thresholds value. The simulation has been performed on grayscale crop images. It is. compared with bacterial foraging algorithm (BFO), and beta differential algorithm (BDE) to validate the accuracy. The results validates that the proposed method outperforms BFO and BDE for grayscale crop images in terms of fidelity parameters. The qualitative and quantitative results evidence the proficiency of suggested method. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The onset and rise of COVID-19 and its sudden progression to a worldwide pandemic lead medical and dental institutes to change their way of teaching and conducting assessments to distance learning as compared to the previously applied conventional approaches. Teaching and assessment during this era have changed vastly, earlier it was solely traditional/live Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) but due to the current circumstances electronic/online OSCE (E-OSCE) method was introduced. In Pakistan also, Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) conducted online exams so that the scheduled exams do not get delayed. Aim(s): The main objective of this paper is to measure the reliability of an E-OSCE and to compare it with the traditional OSCE. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study which got conducted at the Rawal Institute of Health Sciences, Islamabad. Traditional OSCEs and E-OSCEs were conducted with 71 participants including final year students and house officers. Each OSCEs had 10 stations, including one interactive station in traditional OSCE. Students' scores in both the OSCEs were collected and paired t-test was used to compare the mean scores at p<0.05. Result(s): Total number of house officers were 27 and final year students were 44. The scores of 71 participants were collected. The difference between mean scores of house officers' traditional OSCE and E-OSCE was statistically significant (p=0.000). The difference between final year students traditional OSCE and E-OSCE was also statistically significant (p=0.020). Finally, the overall difference between traditional OSCE and E-OSCE was also statistically significant (p=0.000) Practical implication: The main objective of this study was to assess the reliability of an E-OSCE and to compare whether the electronic method of conducting OSCE is more reliable than the traditional method of conducting OSCE. Conclusion(s): Despite limitations and the biases, the results of E-OSCE proved to be better than traditional OSCE. Further research needs to be conducted on E-OSCE to control the factors causing biases and limitations.Copyright © 2023 Lahore Medical And Dental College. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, new requirements for clean air supply are introduced for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. One way for HVAC systems to efficiently remove airborne viruses is by filtering them. Unlike disposable filters that require repeated purchases of consumables, the electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is an alternative option without the drawback of reduced dust collection efficiency in high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters due to dust buildup. The majority of viruses have a diameter ranging from 0.1 μm to 5 μm. This study proposed a two-stage ESP, which charged airborne viruses and particles via positive electrode ionization wire and collected them on a collecting plate with high voltage. Numerical simulations were conducted and revealed a continuous decrease in collection efficiencies between 0.1 μm and 0.5 μm, followed by a consistent increase from 0.5 μm to 1 μm. For particles larger than 1 μm, collection efficiencies exceeding 90% were easily achieved with the equipment used in this study. Previous studies have demonstrated that the collection efficiency of suspended particles is influenced by both the ESP voltage and turbulent flow at this stage. To improve the collection efficiency of aerosols ranging from 0.1 μm to 1 μm, this study used a multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) in combination with numerical simulations to obtain the optimal parameter combination of ionization voltage and flow speed. The particle collection performance of the ESP was examined under the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association (JEMA) standards and showed consistent collection performance throughout the experiment. Moreover, after its design was optimized, the precipitator collected aerosols ranging from 0.1 μm to 3 μm, demonstrating an efficiency of over 95%. With such high collection efficiency, the proposed ESP can effectively filter airborne particles as efficiently as an N95 respirator, eliminating the need to wear a mask in a building and preventing the spread of droplet infectious diseases such as COVID-19 (0.08 μm–0.16 μm). © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Background: We previously described a nephrology-specific "Breaking Bad News" Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) assessing nephrology fellow communication and counseling skills in 3 scenarios: kidney replacement therapy (KRT) in kidney failure, urgent KRT in acute kidney injury (AKI), and kidney biopsy (KBx). Objective: The main objectives of this study is to adapt the OSCE to a virtual platform, simulating nephrology patient telemedicine encounters involving difficult conversations, and to assess fellow and faculty satisfaction with the virtual format. Design: Description of a formative telemedicine simulation for nephrology fellows. Setting: Fully virtual simulation conducted by 2 academic medical simulation centers. Participants: Nephrology faculty and fellows at 3 urban/suburban training programs in the eastern United States. Measurements: Description of the virtual OSCE process. Fellow and faculty satisfaction overall and for each scenario. Faculty and fellow estimates of frequency of virtual patient encounters in the past year. Methods: The OSCE consisted of 3 scenarios: KRT in kidney failure, urgent KRT in AKI, and KBx. Objective Structured Clinical Examinations were administered in May 2021. Each scenario lasted 20 minutes. The AKI scenario was audio only. Fellows telephoned a simulated patient surrogate for urgent KRT consent. Kidney failure and KBx scenarios were video encounters. Faculty observed while muted/video off. Immediately after the OSCE, fellows and faculty were anonymously surveyed regarding their satisfaction with each scenario, the OSCE overall, and their estimate of outpatient encounters and inpatient KRT counseling done virtually in the preceding year. Results: Seventeen fellows completed the OSCE at 2 centers (3 programs). Sixteen (94%) completed the survey. Almost 94% rated the OSCE as a good/very good approximation of telemedicine encounters. Those satisfied/very satisfied with each scenario are as follow: 100% for AKI, 75% for kidney failure, and 75% for KBx. Two commented that they often did urgent KRT counseling by telephone. Fellows estimated a median 20% (interquartile range: 175, 50%) of counseling for acute inpatient KRT and a median 50% (IQR: 33.75, 70%) of outpatient encounters were virtual in the prior year. Two (regarding the kidney failure and KBx scenarios) indicated they would not have counseled similar outpatients virtually. Limitations: The 15-minute interactions may be too short to allow the encounter to be completed comfortably. A small number of programs and fellows participated, and programs were located in urban/suburban areas on the east coast of the United States. Conclusions: Overall, fellows felt that the OSCE was a good approximation of virtual encounters. The OSCE is an opportunity for fellows to practice telemedicine communication skills.


Contexte: Nous avions précédemment décrit un examen clinique objectif structuré (ECOS) de type « annonce d'une mauvaise nouvelle ¼ en néphrologie afin d'évaluer les compétences en communication et consultation des résidents en néphrologie. L'ECOS comportait trois scénarios: thérapie de remplacement rénal (TRR) pour l'insuffisance rénale, TRR urgente dans les cas d'insuffisance rénale aiguë (IRA), et biopsie du rein (BxR). Objectifs: Adapter l'ECOS à une plateforme virtuelle, simuler des rencontres de télémédecine impliquant des conversations difficiles avec des patients en néphrologie, et évaluer la satisfaction des résidents en néphrologie et du corps enseignant à l'égard du format virtuel. Conception: Description d'une simulation de télémédecine pour la formation des résidents en néphrologie. Cadre: Des simulations entièrement virtuelles réalisées dans deux centers universitaires de simulation médicale. Participants: Les professeurs et les résidents en néphrologie de trois programs de formation urbains/suburbains de l'est des États-Unis. Mesures: Description du processus de l'ECOS virtuel. Satisfaction générale des résidents en néphrologie et du corps enseignant pour chacun des scénarios. Estimation, par les professeurs et les résidents, de la fréquence des rencontres virtuelles avec des patients au cours de la dernière année. Méthodologie: L'ECOS était composé de trois scénarios: TRR en insuffisance rénale; TRR urgente en contexte d'IRA et biopsie rénale. Les ECOS ont été réalisés en mai 2021. Chaque scénario durait 20 minutes. Le scénario IRA était audio uniquement; les boursiers devaient téléphoner à un patient simulé afin d'obtenir un consentement pour une TRR urgente. Les scénarios pour l'insuffisance rénale terminale et la BxR étaient sous forme de rencontres vidéo. Les professeurs observaient les scénarios en sourdine/hors vidéo. Immédiatement après l'ECOS, les résidents en néphrologie et les professeurs ont été interrogés de façon anonyme sur leur satisfaction à l'égard de chaque scénario et de l'ECOS dans son ensemble. Ils ont également été invités à estimer le nombre de consultations externes et de conseils prodigués sur la TRR à des patients hospitalisés au cours de l'année précédente. Résultats: Dix-sept résidents en néphrologie ont complété l'ECOS dans les deux centers (trois programs) et seize (94 %) ont répondu au sondage. La très grande majorité (94 %) a évalué l'ECOS comme une bonne/très bonne simulation des rencontres de télémédecine. Le taux de personnes satisfaites/très satisfaites s'établissait à 100 % pour le scénario de l'IRA, à 75 % pour celui de l'insuffisance rénale terminale et à 75 % pour celui de la BxR. Deux personnes ont dit faire régulièrement des consultations par téléphone pour la TRR urgente. Les résidents en néphrologie ont estimé que 20 %, (proportion médiane) ÉIQ= 175; 50 %, des consultations avec des patients hospitalisés et 50 %, (proportion médiane) ÉIQ = 33,75; 70 %, des consultations externes avaient été faites virtuellement au cours de l'année précédente. Pour les scénarios d'insuffisance rénale terminale et de BxR, deux personnes ont indiqué qu'elles ne feraient pas de consultations virtuelles pour ces patients. Limites: Les interactions de 15 minutes sont probablement trop courtes pour compléter confortablement la rencontre. Un faible nombre de programs et de résidents en néphrologie ont participé. Les programs évalués se situaient en zones urbaines et suburbaines de la côte est des États-Unis. Conclusion: Dans l'ensemble, les résidents en néphrologie ont estimé que l'ECOS était une bonne représentation des rencontres virtuelles. L'ECOS est une occasion pour les résidents de mettre en pratique leurs compétences en communication dans un contexte de télémédecine.

In recent years, the world has encountered many epidemic impacts caused by various viruses, COVID-19 has spread and mutated globally since its outbreak in 2019, causing global impact. Nucleic acid detection is an important means for the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Aiming at people who are susceptible to sudden and infectious diseases, considering the control of viral nucleic acid detection cost and completion time, a probabilistic group test optimization method based on the cost and time value is proposed. Firstly, different cost functions to express the pooling and testing costs are used, a probability group test optimization model that considers the pooling and testing costs is established, the optimal combination number of samples for nucleic acid testing is obtained, and the positive probability and the cost functions of the group testing on the optimization result are explored. Secondly, considering the impact of the detection completion time on epidemic control, the sampling ability and detection ability were incorporated into the optimization objective function, then a probability group testing optimization model based on time value is established. Finally, taking COVID-19 nucleic acid detection as an example, the applicability of the model is verified, and the Pareto optimal curve under the minimum cost and shortest detection completion time is obtained. The results show that under normal circumstances, the optimal combination number of samples for nucleic acid detection is about 10. Generally, 10 is used to calculate for the convenience of organization, arrangement and statistics, except for cases where there are special requirements for testing cost and detection completion time.

The COVID-19 outbreak has forced people to stay at home to prevent the spread of the virus. In this case, social media platforms have become the main communication venue for people. Online sales platforms have also become the main field for people's daily consumption. So, how to make full use of social media to carry out online advertising promotion, and then achieve better marketing, is one of the core issues that the marketing industry must pay attention to and solve. Therefore, this study takes the advertiser as the decision-maker, maximizes the number of full playing, likes, comments and forwarding, and minimizes the cost of advertising promotion as the decision-making goals, and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) selection as the decision vector. Based on this, a multi-objective uncertain programming model of advertising promotion is constructed. Among them, the chance-entropy constraint is proposed by combining the entropy constraint and the chance constraint. In addition, the multi-objective uncertain programming model is transformed into a clear single-objective model through mathematical derivation and linear weighting of the model. Finally, the practicability and effectiveness of the model are verified by numerical simulation, and decision-making suggestions for advertising promotion are put forward.

Introduction: The increasing burden on mental health has become a worldwide concern especially due to its substantial negative social and economic impact. The implementation of prevention actions and psychological interventions is crucial to mitigate these consequences, and evidence supporting its effectiveness would facilitate a more assertive response. Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) has been proposed as a potential intervention to improve mental wellbeing through mechanisms in autonomic functioning. The aim of this study is to propose and evaluate the validity of an objective procedure to assess the effectiveness of a HRV-BF protocol in mitigating mental health symptoms in a sample of frontline HCWs (healthcare workers) who worked in the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A prospective experimental study applying a HRV-BF protocol was conducted with 21 frontline healthcare workers in 5 weekly sessions. For PRE-POST intervention comparisons, two different approaches were used to evaluate mental health status: applying (a) gold-standard psychometric questionnaires and (b) electrophysiological multiparametric models for chronic and acute stress assessment. Results: After HRV-BF intervention, psychometric questionnaires showed a reduction in mental health symptoms and stress perception. The electrophysiological multiparametric also showed a reduction in chronic stress levels, while the acute stress levels were similar in PRE and POST conditions. A significant reduction in respiratory rate and an increase in some heart rate variability parameters, such as SDNN, LFn, and LF/HF ratio, were also observed after intervention. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a 5-session HRV-BF protocol is an effective intervention for reducing stress and other mental health symptoms among frontline HCWs who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. The electrophysiological multiparametric models provide relevant information about the current mental health state, being useful for objectively evaluating the effectiveness of stress-reducing interventions. Further research could replicate the proposed procedure to confirm its feasibility for different samples and specific interventions.

The COVID-19 disease has caused a drastic stoppage in the construction industry as a result of quarantines. For this reason, this study focuses on the workforce scheduling problem when working under COVID labor distancing constraints, and additional costs derived from deviation hours or hiring new employees that managers must assume on a project due to circumstances. A multi-objective mixed integer linear programming model was developed and solved using weighting and epsilon constraint methods to evaluate workforce scheduling and the mentioned COVID costs. The first objective function corresponds to the sum of the total extra hours; the second objective function represents the total non-worked but paid hours. Two sets of experiments are presented, the first based on a design of experiments that seeks to determine the relationship between the proposed objective functions and a methodology to determine the cost of considering COVID constraints. The second set of experiments was applied in a real company, where the situation without COVID vs with COVID, and without allowing extra hours vs with COVID allowing extra hours were compared. Obtained results showed that hiring additional employees to the man-crew leads the company to increase the extra hours cost up to 104.25%, being more convenient to keep a workforce baseline and to pay extra hours costs. Therefore, the mathematical model could represent a potential tool for decision-making in the construction sector, regarding the effects of COVID-19 costs on workforce scheduling construction projects. Consequently, this work contributes to the construction industry by quantifying the impact of COVID-19 constraints and the associated costs, offering a proactive approach to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic for the construction sector.

ABSTRACT

The timely assessment of mental health is difficult since we lack the objective measurements of symptoms, especially for the Covid-19 pandemic quarantined students. Fortunately, smart phones can capture the real-world data such as the GPS traces and the phone active time et.al that link the behavioral patterns to the mental health. However, recent studies are based on a very small size of participants and only collect fewer phone features, which means that the effective predicting models which require various features are hardly adopted. In this paper, we develop an android application to record multidimensional data of users as well as a PHQ-9 and a SAS questionary, and we distribute it to 176 college students to collect larger scale data when in quarantine period. To address the unprecise problem of handcrafted feature extraction, we design an autoencoder machine learning model to monitor the student mental health. Extensive experiments indicate that the performance of the proposed method improves its F-1 score for PHQ-9 and SAS by 5% and 6% to the state of the current studies, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The key objective of our study involves devising a conceptual model for estimation of social media acceptance by students for effectively accomplishing their educational and academic goals. Factors e.g., perceived social capital, social influence, and perceived mobility that associated with student acceptance of social media were investigated, and integrated into the TAM model using the PLS-SEM. Data were collected through online survey (461 students) at UAE universities. The findings revealed that mentioned factors positively affected students' intention to use social media during their learning process. Respondents' behavioral intention were also linked to both the core and external constructs of the TAM. Important practical insights on technology acceptance in education were provided. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

During an emergency, timely and effective distribution of emergency supplies is critical in rescue. In the context of Covid-19, given the difficulties in distributing supplies to communities due to super infectious viruses, unmanned vehicle distribution is studied by taking into account the priority and satisfaction of communities to improve distribution safety and effectiveness of supplies. Furthermore, the influence of distribution time on the overall efficiency is also taken into account, thus ultimately establishing an unmanned distribution model with the shortest distribution time while meeting community satisfaction. The improved whale algorithm is used to solve the dual-objective model and compared with the basic whale optimization algorithm. The results show that the improved whale algorithm demonstrates better convergence, searchability, and stability. The constructed model can scientifically distribute daily necessities to communities while considering their priority and satisfaction. © 2022 IEEE.

As cruise ships call at many ports and passengers come from all over the world, it is very easy to carry viruses on cruise ships. Under the control of the epidemic situation on board, the solid waste generated by them should be scientifically treated to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 pneumonia. Therefore, Reasonable selection of waste disposal ports and formulation of unloading plans are directly related to the resumption of cruise operations. This study considers the cost and risk of waste disposal, uses robust optimization to deal with waste volume, increases the scenarios of port service interruption due to epidemics and other reasons, and proposes a variety of emergency strategies. Finally, the relevant strategies are selected according to the decision-maker's preference for cost and risk;By solving the relevant examples, the optimal choice of the cruise ship waste disposal port under the epidemic situation is given, which verifies the validity and feasibility of the model. The research helps to improve the management of cruise waste during the post-epidemic period, and has practical value and guiding significance for the normal operation and development of the global cruise market. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the field of Narrative Pharmacy was introduced, which particularly addresses the pharmacist not only to guide a relationship of listening to and caring for the patient but also to strengthen and motivate toward the profession, improve relationships with colleagues, enhance the ability to teamwork, and understand emotions. In this paper, we report the analysis behind the construction of the Value Chart from the personal narratives of members of the Italian Society of Hospital Pharmacy. Each member's subjective professional experiences and their own view of themselves within society were collected through a semi-structured interview. Personal thinking, including experiences, feelings, opinions, desires, and regrets was classified by objective methods, from which main concepts were extracted for the Value Chart. The feedback to the survey, including activities during the Covid-19 pandemic management, is classified according to the analytical methods of Kleinman, Frank, Bury and Launer-Robinson. Regarding sentiment analysis, the emotional and subjective context of the text provides an ideal baseline to validate the result. The analysis was implemented using neural networks trained on dictionaries and natural language (i.e., Tweets). The originality of the work lies in the fact that generally value charters are built on a Society's values. In contrast, in this case, individual contributions were gathered to complement the ethical values on which the society is founded. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Advances in technology, non-traditional students, and a new generation of e-learners all challenge institutions of higher learning to support innovations that create relevant distance education opportunities for their students. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic dramatic shifts to education occurred, requiring schools of social work to consider new ways to prepare students for the field and new evaluation methods of students' practice skills. Smoyer and colleagues explored this further in their study on BSW students' experiences in distance education during the pandemic and found when students were unexpectedly thrust into online learning platforms most were able to learn online;however, substantive interactivity and synchronous engagement were factors that were necessary to maintain student overall satisfaction in the distance learning environment. In addition, they point out the need for interactive technology in online social work classrooms to simulate the human interaction that is essential to student learning and practice. The online objective, structured clinical examination (e-OSCE) is one form of online simulation-based learning that offers highly interactive and engaging HIP learning opportunities for social work students. The OSCE is a standardized, valid, and reliable assessment method that social work education programs use to ensure successful practice skills development. This study used a qualitative, exploratory embedded single-case method to investigate online MSW students' experiences participating in an e-OSCE, their perspectives on the use of an e-OSCE in online social work education, and future practice considerations students identify upon completing the e-OSCE. With the continuous development of the sensory experience urban tourism, soundscape perception has become of importance. Taking the Qianmen Avenue, a typical historical block in the Central Axis of Beijing Old City as a case study, this paper presents an analysis of the objective soundscape features just after the first climax of the COVID-19 in January 2021. Based on the model of "acoustical parameters - classifications - extraction of the keynote and signal and soundmark - SPL mapping", the case study shows that although the soundscapes of Qianmen Avenue are complex and changeable with a LAeq from 55dB to 90dB, the noisy keynotes are combined with the sales' broadcasting, loudspeakers, tourists and traffic noise;natural sounds are rarely perceived;the warning bells of passing trams are extremely loud and harsh, causing great disturbance to tourists;no clearly identifiable soundmark has been found;and there is no obvious regularity in the spatial distribution in the SPL mapping. Apart from the architectural features and recently painted murals, the soundscape is far away from the "Culture-enriched Beijing” related content that the public perceives it carries. And due to the COVID-19, an epidemic broadcasting is added as a possible signal or soundmark. © ICA 2022.All rights reserved

ABSTRACT

One of the predominant symptoms of the COVID-19 virus is the complete (anosmia) or partial (hyposmia) loss of smell. Anosmia may be a critical neurocognitive symptom because there is an empirically demonstrated association of anosmia with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, etc. The present study assessed the neurocognitive disorder patterns in recovered COVID-19 patients who either self-reported anosmia or its absence. Of the 60 adult participants (n = 32 males, n = 28 females; Mage = 20.78 years, range = 18-31 years), 15 reported COVID-19 induced anosmia, 15 reported COVID-19 without anosmia, and 30 reported not having contracted COVID-19. The participants were first administered a 10-item smell test, and analysis of variance revealed significantly better scores for the control group than the other two groups. Further, there was no significant difference in smell scores between the patients who self-reported anosmia or denied it. This statistical pattern was consistent across all neuropsychological tests: short- and long-term verbal memory, digit span, Trail Making, and a self-report 46-item neurocognitive scale. Regardless of the self-report of anosmia or denial, all thirty COVID-19 patients scored significantly poorer than the control group on all of the tests and neurocognitive scale. In summary, the self-report of anosmia appears to be unreliable, and the COVID-19 patients who were found to be anosmic on the initial objective smell test demonstrated poorer neuropsychological performance than controls.
